Up next in our series of weekend plans from notable, in-the-know locals—a.k.a. people we like: Andrew Rafacz, the owner of Andrew Rafacz Gallery in the West Loop, which opens two new shows on 2/9 at 4.

“Friday, after a long day at the gallery, I will head to Corbett vs. Dempsey to see new work by Diane Simpson and Rodney Quiriconi. John Corbett and Jim Dempsey have done a spectacular job of mixing internationally known blue chip artists with underappreciated talent from Chicago. Afterwards, I may grab a quick bite at La Pasadita on the west side of Ashland.

“Saturday morning, I will get breakfast at Bistrot Zinc and read the weekend papers as I do just about every weekend morning. I live in the Gold Coast, and Bistrot Zinc is the only solid neighborhood spot for me. The food is always great. I will then head into the gallery, where we will be making final preparations for two new solo exhibitions; Jeremy Bolen in Gallery One and Robert Burnier in Gallery Two. Both are Chicago-based artists and these are their first solo exhibitions with the gallery. There will have a reception from 4–7 p.m.

“On Sunday, I plan to take my usual stroll along the lake. I’ll then have brunch at Sable. Their brunch menu is a great mix of traditional dishes and really unexpected ones. And they use a lot of local ingredients. After that, I will stop into the Jazz Record Mart, which is right across the street. I love to browse their enormous inventory. It is therapeutic and always clears the head after a long weekend of work. I usually find something to take home!” —As told to Elly Fishman
