The overlapping top hat and parasol on Sir & Madame’s logo says it all. Not only does this Ukrainian Village shop offer both men’s and women’s clothing, but it also has a certain throwback charm that husband-and-wife owners Autumn, 30, and Brian Merritt, 32, call “classic with a twist.”
They opened the shop in 2010 to bring urban dandyish labels such as Brooklyn Circus and Striver’s Row to Chicago, and before long, they created a his-and-hers collection. “Right now, I love our line of tailored polka-dot shirts [$150],” says Autumn. “They can be worn by a confident man, but they can also translate to a sexy woman’s piece.”
Brian’s pick is Reigning Champ’s collaboration with United Arrows: Canadian-made terry pullovers with blue horizontal stripes ($200). In addition to jeans and retro-feeling cardigans, you can find shoes, bags, hats, and other accessories displayed on vintage tables and suitcases.
The Merritts’ mission is simple: “We try to please, impress, and surprise people,” says Autumn.
