Illinois isn’t exactly known for its terroir. But plenty of local winemakers are trying to change this.

Saturday, June 1 from 1 to 9 p.m., about 150 wines from more than 15 local wineries (along with locally-produced artisanal foods) will be available for sampling at Downtown Oak Park's Uncork Illinois, co-sponsored by Chicago magazine. Among the vendors will be City Winery, Fox Creek, and Cooper’s Hawk.

“In the past, we have featured wines from Lynfred Winery,” he says. “My favorite is their Seyval Blanc. It’s got just the right balance of juicy fruit flavors, like pineapple and pears, coupled with a nice lemony finish. It’s an ideal summer wine—perfect for a picnic.”
