WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND
Photo: Nathan Keay
Up next in our series of weekend plans from notable, in-the-know locals—a.k.a. people we like: Heidi Reitmaier, director of education at the Museum of Contemporary Art. First Fridays takes place at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 4.
“Friday is our First Fridays, which is a program we’ve reinvented. We’re partnering with Magic Chicago so we have nine magicians who are going to be featured, including Dennis Watkins, who is probably one of the most well-known. And then we have Christi LeMaster who’s screening 16 mm experimental films. We also have Girl Group Chicago, a fifteen piece band who recreate the sounds and looks of the ’60s mod look.
“Saturday, I have soccer with my daughter. And then we usually go to my favorite Vietnamese Restaurant, Tank Noodle. Later, my partner and I are going to the Gene Siskel Film Center. We never really decide on a film until we arrive, but the Siskel always has such an eclectic range each evening you can usually wander in and see something incredible. Then we’re going to Chances Dances at The Hideout. They’re programming a queer holiday themed First Fridays for us in December.
“Sunday is definitely chill out family day. We have been talking for ages about checking out the Maxwell Street Market.” —As told to Tomi Obaro
