Get a taste of the Flavor, Stephanie Izard’s line of sauces and rubs, when she leads a cooking demo at the Goddess and Grocer (1649 N. Damen Ave., Bucktown, 773-342-3200). Her dishes will each be paired with an alcoholic beverage—you can buy $12 tickets to get in on the sampling here.
Saturday, August 9
See how your meat becomes a meal with a tour of Slagel Family Farm in Fairbury, which includes a butchering demonstration and a family-style farm dinner prepared by Nicole Pederson of Found Kitchen and Mike Summons of Rootstock. Transportation to and from the farm is included—buses will depart from both Found (1631 Chicago Ave., Evanston) and Rootstock (954 N. California Ave., Humboldt Park)—in the $125 cost of the trip (tickets here).
Heartland Cafe (7000 N. Glenwood Ave., Rogers Park, 773-465-8005) is officially reopening its attached market today, and the store will spotlight local goods: Co-Op Hot Sauce, Katherine Anne Confections, and Pear Tree Preserves, among others. To celebrate the shop’s certified-open status, they’ll have a rotating cast of vendors on hand to offer up samples today and tomorrow.
