At long last, West Town has a brewery all its own—and its beers are fermented with botanicals. Forbidden Root (1746 W. Chicago Ave.) serves 18 drafts alongside brew-friendly American food.

Local coffee chain Dollop has opened its first bakeshop. The aptly named Dollop Bake Shop (1000 N. Damen Ave., Ukrainian Village) features a full roster of espresso drinks, plus housemade pastries by morning and soups, salads, and sandwiches for lunch.

Snaggletooth (2819 N. Southport Ave., Lake View), a back-to-basics ode to cured fish from former C Chicago chef Bill Montagne, is open.

If you want to get in on this year’s edition of Baconfest, taking place April 30-May 1, now’s the time to pounce. Tickets are currently available for all three pork-fueled sessions ($100 a pop for general admission), and if past years are any indication, they won’t last long.

In the mood for some Indian food this weekend? You have two chances to check out the Bombay Breakdown pop-up, a collaboration between Yoshi Yamada (Blackbird, Lula Cafe) and Zeeshan Shah (Bristol, Custom House). They’ll be serving pork pao and gulab jamun from 5:30 p.m. onward on Friday and Saturday at DAS (2855 W. Fullerton Ave., Logan Square) and from 5 to 11 p.m. on Monday at Sidecar at the Long Room (1612 W. Irving Park Rd., Lake View).
