If you have spent any time looking at the buildings around you throughout Chicago, you have most likely seen a greystone building. It is, as its name suggests, a building that’s facade offers stone, often limestone, that has a greyish color. Though the exteriors may be somewhat uniform, greystones come in all sizes and prices, from condo buildings to even sometimes single-family homes.
The greystone started to appear in the city in the 1890s, Curbed notes, constructed with locally sourced limestone. After the Chicago fire, these buildings became commonplace and many of them still are used today. We found five units currently for sale in the city that have greystone exteriors at just about every price point.
