During Paris Fashion Week in March, one of the most widely photographed young women will be Karlie Kloss, a 15-year-old beanpole from St. Louis who works through Elite Chicago. Last September, this high-fashion breakout star walked in shows for Calvin Klein, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, and Chloé, a career spurt due in part to a growth spurt (she recently hit 5’11”). An absurdly motivated young woman who juggles her international career with ballet, cheerleading, and school, Kloss embraces her hectic new schedule. Her only free day during fall’s fashion week in Paris provided a welcome chance to see the city, but she admitted she almost would rather have been working. “I had to miss some really cool shows,” says Kloss. (French law prohibits minors from working on Sunday.)
She’ll get more chances. Just ask Steven Meisel, Mario Sorrenti, Craig McDean, and Patrick Demarchelier, top photographers who have all shot Kloss over the past few months. In March, even more to ballyhoo: If Internet grumblings are true, Kloss will appear in five spring ad campaigns—reportedly the same number Kate Moss has booked. Looks like there may be more similarities between the two than just their last names.
