KNIGHT MOVES: Monty Python’s Terry Jones dishes the dirt on the Holy Grail

THE FIVE

Don’t-miss events for Wed 05.06.09 through Tue 05.12.09

1

farrago Monty Python’s Terry Jones*
Seriously, we don’t care if you can quote the entire movie word-for-word. Save the chitchat for after the flick. Following a screening of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the former Python and Grail codirector Terry Jones hosts a Q&A, his first in the U.S. since the film premiered stateside in Chicago in 1975.
GO: May 9 at 6 and 9. $39.50. Lakeshore Theater, 3175 N Broadway. lakeshoretheater.com

2

theatre Static: A Headphones Tour
Sure, those rent-a-headset museum audio tours are scary—but only because you don’t know who wore the headphones last. For a real thrill, catch this ghost story in the form of a walk-through theatre installation, about one eccentric couple with a creepy collecting habit.
GO: Thru May 30. $10-$15. Sansculottes Theater at North Lakeside Cultural Center, 6219 N Sheridan Rd. brownpapertickets.com

3

concerts Dan Deacon*
Too slow to snag Iron and Wine tickets and too hip for Fall Out Boy? Behind concert door number three this week: Dan Deacon, the current darling of the electronic music scene, who is touring with a full band to recreate the jubilant flourishes of his new album, Bromst.
GO: May 7 at 6:30. $10. Metro, 3730 N Clark St. metrochicago.com

4

theatre The Flu Season
Set in a mental hospital and a theatre—insert “What’s the difference?” joke here—playwright Will Eno’s nonlinear philosophizing will be catnip to those who loved his similarly plot-free Thom Pain (Based on Nothing) and anathema to those who found it the worst kind of nonsense. We’re among the former.
GO: Thru May 31. $20. Black Sheep Productions at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N Southport Ave. black-sheep-productions.com

5

theatre Sketchbook*
She put up with your unnecessary drama: The final performance of Collaboraction’s multiweek Sketchbook—featuring a marathon run of all 14 mini plays presented over the course of the wild and wooly theatre/music/visual arts fest—is free for only the most deserving, a.k.a. Mom. Now that’s a Mother’s Day surprise you can afford, recession or no.
GO: May 10 at 3 (see Web site for additional showtimes). Free for moms; $30 for everyone else. Collaboraction at the Building Stage, 412 N Carpenter St. collaboraction.org
