Comercio Popular
In September, three years after setting up an online store, founder Miguel Cervantes and partners Lucy Angel and Dom Cordilla opened a brick-and-mortar outpost to sell jewelry, pottery, clothes, and other goods from Mexican designers. The weekends-only shop not only stocks items from south of the border but also serves a vital purpose as a community space. The designers often visit to discuss their process, drawing residents and fostering dialogue around Mexican identity. These events, conducted in English and Spanish, showcase food and drinks from local small businesses, which often use the occasion to launch products. It’s a slice of Mexico City’s famous cosmopolitan energy right in the heart of Chicago’s Southwest Side. 2901 W. Cermak Rd., Little Village
