The Property: Chicago Cubs outfielder Kosuke Fukudome, who on Wednesday was the subject of a rumor that he’d be traded to Boston, has bought a three-bedroom condo in a new Lake Shore Drive high-rise for about $1.32 million. Since coming to the Cubs from Japan in 2007, Fukudome and his wife, Kasue, had been renting a Gold Coast home. I could not reach Fukudome for comment.

The couple closed on their purchase of a high-floor condo in the south tower of 600 North Lake Shore Drive in late October. The unit’s great room has a stretch of windows 27 feet wide looking east over Lake Michigan and another 25-foot stretch looking north up the lakefront.

Fukudome is a native of Japan who spent nine years with the Chunichi Dragons. He played on the silver medalist team at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and the bronze medalist team in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. In December 2007, he signed a four-year, $48 million contract with the Cubs that included a no-trade clause. In his first season with the Cubs, he started in baseball’s annual All-Star game. This past season he hit .263 for the North Siders, with 13 home runs and 44 RBIs.

With one 47-story tower and another that is 41 stories, the 600 North Lake Shore Drive development was completed last year by Belgravia Group and Sandz Development; it’s now about 95 percent sold out. It has at least one other celebrity resident, NBC 5’s Charlie Wojciechowski, who bought there in early 2009.

Price Points: The condo that Fukudome bought had been the building’s sales model; it was already finished with assorted upgrades from the developer’s standard offerings. Fukudome negotiated to get those thrown in along with a reduced price for parking, in all shaving about $120,000 off the listed price of $1.44 million.
