THE RESULT

Sparling turned a contractor’s special into an elegant bath with a dash of Jazz Age style. Crisp lines and sumptuous materials provide a luxurious retreat in the Northwest Side home of a retired police chief. Oversized black porcelain floor tiles project instant drama while rich cherry shelves and cabinets “add warmth to all the cold tile,” Sparling says. A towel warmer, heated floor, and extra-large shower enclosure are sensual, covetable amenities, but behind-the-scenes humidity sensors and a powerful ventilation fan are every bit as important in this windowless bath. Over the sink, three mirrored medicine cabinets are positioned at staggered heights like Busby Berkeley dancers high-stepping onto the stage. Who knew medicine cabinets could be so sexy?
