Reclaimed wood is having quite the moment in the design world. And now, it even has its own museum exhibit. For two days only (this Tuesday and Wednesday), the Field Museum is holding a show called Barrique: The Third Life for Wood.
The exhibit shows how wine barrels were transformed in the hands of Italian artists, designers, and architects into beautiful items. The results are astounding: slats from the barrels becoming an X-base for a gorgeous glass-topped table, a porch swing, a bench, and even a cradle.
Want a warm and fuzzy feeling? The project benefitted at-risk youth in the Italian community of San Patrigano—the idea being that giving a fresh start to the wood would also give a fresh start to people who really need it.
