For Chicago artist Garth Borovicka, making storage boxes by hand is a family tradition that goes back four generations.

But while his great-grandfather made lidded boxes from metal and wood found on the family farm, Borovicka finds his materials around Chicago. He builds boxes out of scrap wood cast off by area businesses, lines them with pretty paper, and attaches leather tab handles. They are available in a variety of sizes, from as small as a ring box to as large as a blanket chest.
