Netherlands-based artist Esther Derkx scours flea markets all over the world for sweet old crockery in good condition, but she has more in mind than a simple cup of Darjeeling. She silk-screens vintage images of athletes, dancers, and other human beings in motion onto the pieces, producing an amusing assortment of one-of-a-kind cups and saucers ($40 for both), plates, bowls, and teapots ($110), each curiouser than the next. Food safe and hand washable, they’re available at I.D. (3341 N. Clark St., 773-755-4343).
