When a Northfield couple recruited Ben White, a designer with the Evanston-based firm Benvenuti and Stein (benvenutiandstein.com), to transform their utilitarian master bath into something more luxurious, they chose the right guy. A 730-square-foot second-floor addition allowed White to do away with the room’s choppy L-shaped layout and expand its footprint. Dramatic archways edged with limestone and mosaics cultivate a cool, Casablancan vibe; they also separate the walk-in shower from the tub area, and the whole spa-like bath from a separate vanity space. Perforated shutters allow light to filter into the bath while preserving privacy. Floor pillows and window benches provide seating, as does the mosaic-sided frame around the Sok overflowing tub by Kohler. A burnished brass light fixture completes the Moroccan mood.
