Start counting down the days (15!) until one of the best events of the fall: Chairs for Charity. The fifth annual auction not only benefits a worthy cause (Designs for Dignity), but it highlights some daring local designers. This year we're celebrating with a two-part game of musical chairs. Here's a sneak peek of the inventive designs you'll see, each paired with a song that best represents the seat.
Designer: Nicole Alexander of Siren Betty Design
Chair Name: Tempest's Choir
Seat Soundtrack: "Nothing But the Water" by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
Liner Notes: The silk and cotton weaving on this iron chair frame calls to mind turbulent water and the bluesy voice of a strong chanteuse like Potter.
Designer: Jef Anderson of Yearbook Studio
Chair Name: The Rival Chairs
Seat Soundtrack: Your College's Fight Song
Liner Notes: Remember the familiar, spirited sounds of the marching band on game day, who for just a moment could muffle the screams from rival sets of fans? That's these leather-and-letterman-jacket-inspired chairs.
Designer: Bill Bruss of Bill Bruss Design Inc.
Chair Name: City Limits
Seat Soundtrack: "Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service
Liner Notes: The combination of a digitally-printed Chicago skyline with a high-back seat immediately brought to mind this beloved indie song.
Designer: Cindy Bardes Galvin of Bardes Interiors and Maze Home
Chair Name: I'm So Fancy
Seat Soundtrack: "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea
Liner Notes: Sure, it's an obvious song, but Azalea's summer jam perfectly matches for this equally over-the-top chair. This vintage Louis XV open-arm bergère seat showcases three vintage Hermès scarves from the designer's personal collection, as well as equestrian straps and buckles.
Set your sights on your favorite seat Friday, September 19, from 6-8:30 p.m., at EuroFurniture (2145 W. Grand Ave.). Complimentary drinks and appetizers will be served. Purchase tickets ($40) here.
