Last week we showed you a handful of seats with major style. Well, the group below give them a run for their money. We're playing musical chairs yet again, pairing each chair with a song that captures its style. To bid on the daring designs—plus a dozen more never-seen-before chairs—be sure to get your tickets to next week's annual fundraiser before they sell out!
Designer: Gahee Kang, a Krrb sponsored designer
Chair Name: Rubber Chair
Seat Soundtrack: "Oompa Loompa Song" from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Liner Notes: Prefer not to take yourself too seriously? Neither does this chair, thanks to rubber dip, curved legs, and a jaunty color combo that immediately calls to mind the famous movie munchkins.
Designer: Ty and Lynne McDaniel of An Orange Moon
Chair Name: Word Up
Seat Soundtrack: "Lost for Words" by Pink Floyd
Liner Notes: It may seem impossible to decipher the text of this graphic Danish-designed fabric. But we're pretty sure it's trying to say: You know you wanna buy me!
Designer: Lukas Machnik of Lukas Machnik Design in collaboration with pavilion 20th C
Chair Name: Louise
Seat Soundtrack: "Paint it Black" by The Rolling Stones
Liner Notes: Drawing inspiration from the American sculptor Louise Nevelson, Machnik made this sleek seat out of deconstructed vintage chairs, rubber, and plenty of black paint. It's the dark horse of the group, and we'd be happy to take it for a ride.
Designer: Dean Renaud of South Social and Home
Chair Name: Usurper
Seat Soundtrack: "That Smell" by Lynard Skynard
Liner Notes: Sure, Renaud used skunk hides for the seat of this iron design. But by limiting the color palette and incorporating varied textures, it's the opposite of stinky.
Set your sights on your favorite seat Friday, September 19, from 6-8:30 p.m., at EuroFurniture (2145 W. Grand Ave.). Complimentary drinks and appetizers will be served. Purchase tickets ($40) here.
