Just call Justin Roberts the king of “kindie” rock. The Lincoln Square musician crafts infectious tunes for tots about the agony of waiting for recess and what it’s like to be a water-walking whale. So how did the 44-year-old become a Grammy-nominated kiddie whisperer? “I err on the side of writing something that is meaningful to me, whether it’s musical—like a great pop hook—or lyrical,” he explains.
His knack for relating to the pintsize set without condescension translates to his live shows. Children bounce in a mosh pit as their parents shake their hips and tap their toes. “We try to make sure everyone is having a good time.”
