NORTHBROOK $495,000 to $795,000

The townhouses at Meadow Ridge in Northbrook have no basements—at least not in the traditional sense. A large unfinished room on the second floor can serve as a storage space or workout room or perform other basement duties. For an additional cost, it can be finished off as living space. (In some floor plans, the room is big enough to be divided into two.) About seven of ten buyers opt to finish it off, says Joe Giampa, a sales manager at Gibson & James Properties, which is marketing the 164-townhouse project for KZF Development.

Even without a basement, the homes have plenty of storage space. Master bedrooms feature large walk-in closets, and other closets pop up elsewhere. “We didn’t dis anybody on closets,” Giampa says. About 80 of the townhouses have been completed, and a second round of building gets under way this spring. Prices run from $495,000 for a 2,450-square-foot two-bedroom layout to $795,000 for a 3,700-square-foot three-bedroom home. Some floor plans have a first-floor master suite; all of the units have two-car garages.
