Skokie-based model Shelby Coleman (whom you may remember from our Q & A in October 2008) gives us a brief behind-the-scenes look at a day in her life:
March 4, 2009
First day of Fashion Week! Today I have a full schedule, which consists of five castings and two shows! I wake up at 8:30 a.m. and meet my driver downstairs at 9:15. I do three of my castings before I arrive at the Kris Van Assche show.
Once I get backstage, I grab a salad with some oranges. I prefer to eat before I am put in hair and make-up—that way I don’t mess up my make-up.
After hair and make-up, I chat with my friend Nika and pose for photos. The cool thing about fashion shows is you almost have a bunch of mini photoshoots with the photographers backstage! It’s funny. We goof around until it’s time for the show. The collection is absolutely amazing; it’s very bold and intense. Lots of black, and awesome shoes.
After Kris Van Assche, I run out and meet my driver outside. Having a driver on busy days like these is the best. That way you have time to breathe between shows! I stop and take some pictures of the cool buildings and scenery while I have the chance. Paris truly is beautiful and I wouldn’t dream of leaving here without some memories!
I quickly go to two castings, grab a Nutella crepe, and at 6:15 I arrive at Fatima Lopez. At this point I’m feeling pretty tired, but also excited for the show. I hang out with my mom backstage and talk about what to get for dinner. We agree on a vegetarian quiche.
The show goes well and my mom and I get out around 9:30 p.m. We take the train back to the hotel near République, eat our quiche, and go over the schedule for the next day. Then we go to bed.
