March 23, 2006 – Chicago magazine celebrated the Spring 2006 edition of Chicago FASHION on March 23, 2006 with “Backstage.” More than 200 guests were transported to the backstage of a fashion show, complete with models dressing on raised platforms, a Green Room for VIPs, and a giant painting of the issue’s cover. May 25, 2007 – 10 Cane Rum and Chicago magazine hosted a summer soiree at Le Passage. One hundred-fifty guests “sipped” away to summer as they enjoyed signature 10 Cane Rum mojitos and pink lemonade cocktails.
June 20, 2006 – Chicago magazine and Grand Marnier hosted The Grand Marnier Mixer, an evening of mixing and mingling at Adobo Grill Wicker Park. Replete with margaritas and signature Mexican fare, the event marked the perfect way to welcome the summer months and featured a how-to margarita demonstration.
June 22, 2006 – Parkways Foundation’s fourth annual Garden Party raised $290,000 to benefit a new signature playground in Washington Park. Nearly 700 attendees in hats of all styles lunched under a tent at Daley Bicentennial Plaza. An additional $3,500 in scholarship funds was raised for children to attend the after-school program at the Park.

Last year’s event was hosted by PAWS Chicago Development Board and co-chaired by Richard Doermer, Kimberly Gleeson, and John Vaile. It was attended by more than 500 people and raised over $130,000.
January 18, 2007 – For the 13th consecutive year, Chicago magazine was pleased to introduce its Chicagoans of the Year, nine individuals who have made vital contributions to the life and spirit of the city during 2006. This year’s honorees ranged from the two dancers who founded an annual AIDS fundraiser to the doctor who invented a revolutionary prosthetic. The magazine celebrated their achievements at its annual Chicagoans of the Year luncheon on Thursday, January 18, 2007, at the Four Seasons Hotel. Recipients also received a $1,000 donation to the charities of their choice courtesy of the Chicago Tribune Foundation.
My parents are celebrating their 40th anniversary next month, and the occasion got me thinking about relationships and compromise. Mom is a media mogul who goes out for work functions almost as much as I do; Dad is a circuit court judge who’s asleep by eight every night. She does the cooking; he does the eating. She cleans up; he feeds the dogs. She has a standing manicure appointment every Saturday; he has a standing tee time every Sunday. Their schedule seems to work for them, despite personalities on the opposite ends of the spectrum. She’s a Type A; he’s a Type XL (as in extra laid-back). She’s a social butterfly; he has a hard time remembering all of his friends’ names.
They’re not necessarily what you’d expect from soul mates, but since getting set up at the University of Illinois in 1965…
On Wednesday, August 30th, Chicago magazine, the Hard Rock Hotel, and China Grill hosted an indoor/outdoor rooftop rendezvous in the Hard Rock Hotel’s Hamer Room, an intimate space with a view of Michigan Avenue. This two-hour cocktail reception welcomed nearly 100 guests, including the Hard Rock Hotel’s VIPs and Chicago magazine agency clients. Partygoers relaxed after a hard day as they sampled cocktails and hors d’oeuvres compliments of China Grill.
