1 Green City Market Chef’s BBQ

Food:Tickets to this foodapalooza entitle the bearer to all-you-can-consume samples from booths run by more than 100 of Chicago’s top restaurants, many of which send their chefs to cook, serve, and banter here. 2 Lucas Foglia: Human Nature

Art:“The average American spends 93 percent of their life indoors,” writes Foglia on his website. This exhibition shows the award-winning photographer at his best, shadowing people who have an unusual and often inspiring relationship with the outdoors—like a woman taking an EEG test on a rocky cliff, a prisoner gently holding a baby guinea fowl, or a researcher plumbing the incredible depths of a melting glacier. At the heart of all this adventure is a moral imperative about our planet’s ecological health.

3 Dear Carmencita

Pop-Up:The Art Institute of Chicago (in collaboration with the Chicago Athletic Association) hosts pop-up bar Dear Carmencita in celebration of John Singer Sargent and Chicago’s Gilded Age, the museum’s latest major exhibit. Throughout its run Dear Carmencita will be the site of unique events, including flamenco performances, figure drawing, and “gilded” makeovers.

4 Art Institute Block Party

Festival:One of the city’s most storied cultural institutions hosts its first annual block party. The event will showcase more than 12 hours of art, workshops, talks, and performances. Throughout the museum’s gardens, galleries, and public spaces, attendees will have ample space to escape the heat and unleash their creative side.

5 Chicago Oddities & Curiosities Expo

Expo:This expo for the bizarre has a little something for every weirdo out there. Visitors can find everything from ethically sourced taxidermy, afterlife tours, and something called a bone yard. Be prepared to walk away sufficiently spooked and with a pocket full of exotic doodads.

6 Pitchfork Music Festival

Festival:Pitchfork has sometimes been the black sheep of Chicago’s flock of music festivals, offering a lineup that leans esoteric. This year is no different: Rising stars with Chicago roots (Noname, Ravyn Lenae) share the bill with established indie-rock acts (Tame Impala, Fleet Foxes) and genuine legends (Chaka Khan, Lauryn Hill).

7 Vans Warped Tour 2018

Festival:Warped tour returns to Chicago for one day only on its final cross country tour. Bask in the music of the early 2000s with bands like 3oh!3, All Time Low, and Bowling for Soup.

8 The Silver Room Block Party

Festival:Once known as a “quaint affair,” the Silver Room Block Party is now a vibrant and diverse party for Chicagoans of all ages to celebrate community, cultural diversity, and up-and-coming artists. Hosted by storied Hyde Park boutique and venue the Silver Room and its owner, Eric Williams, this vibrant and diverse party boasts three outdoor stages, more than 20 musical performances (including Georgia Anne Muldrow, Ron Trent and George Claussel, and Twilite Tone), a film festival, and outdoor yoga.

9 Films and Videos by David Wojnarowicz and Collaborators

Film:During his short life, David Wojnarowicz created a considerable and celebrated body of work in paintings, photography, performances, sculpture, writing, and video. Wojnarowicz’s art focused on a critical response to the conditions of the world that surrounded him. The Block Museum hosts a one-day retrospective and conversation on his moving-image contributions.
