Less than three months after Spring Awakening announced its move from Soldier Field to Jackson Park, the festival seems poised to backpedal. According to a Parks District spokesperson, the event is not scheduled to go off in Jackson Park, though organizers are still considering different parks.
The EDM festival, currently scheduled for June 10 to 12, has been selling tickets under the presumption of an event in Jackson Park since February. The festival recently scrubbed the location from its website, but it's still listed on its external ticket seller. With less than two months to go until the festival, no lineup has been announced.
Reasons for the pivot are anybody's guess, but it may have to do with the neighborhood balking at hosting the festival. Alderman Leslie Hairston (5th) told me shortly after Spring Awakening announced its move that she hadn't signed off on the festival yet. Meanwhile, neighborhood group Jackson Park Watch organized against against the festival online and at community meetings.
Festival organizers have not responded to multiple requests for comment on the move or how they plan to honor tickets sold for a Jackson Park event.
