In a sad if slightly unsurprising move last week, local garage-pop act Smith Westerns confirmed to the Reader that their indefinite hiatus, announced earlier in the week on Twitter, is in fact an official breakup. The band, which released three full-lengths in their seven-year tenure, cited personal and artistic differences for the breakup; guitarists Cullen Omori and Max Kakacek are working on separate (and apparently infusible) projects, while bassist Cameron Omori (Cullen's brother) resumes study full-time at Northwestern.
The Omoris will give the band a proper burial Tuesday night (without Max) with one final show at Lincoln Hall. It's worth noting that the date will almost certainly sell out; originally scheduled at Schubas, the band moved the show to Lincoln Hall and opened it to all ages after the first wave of tickets sold out last week.
