Mikal Cronin

Happy Friday! Here’s how three of our C Notes bloggers are spending their weekends.

“I’m hoping to sit in on the University of Chicago’s half-century-old folk festival. The Evening Light Brothers sound too good to miss. And I wouldn’t turn down any jambalaya at the rumored after-party (unconfirmed, of course). If not, a drink at the newly opened Billy Sunday in Logan Square should do.” —Scott Standley, contributing music critic

“I’m heading to the Off the Record: A Trouble in Mind brunch-time listening party—it’s definitely worth waking up for on Sunday! The record store Saki cohosts a free listening session with Trouble In Mind, a local record label on the rise. Ty Segall collaborator Mikal Cronin will perform at the store too. Since I’ll be getting up early, I’ll definitely chow down on the breakfast provided by Bang Bang Pie Shop and wash it down with some Goose Island 312.” —Selena Fragassi, contributing music critic

“Saturday, I’m going to Jeremy Bolen’s show at Andrew Rafacz Gallery in the West Loop with Chicago photo editor Megan Lovejoy Deja. She’s raved about Bolen’s work, so I’m really excited to check it out. I’ll probably also stop at J. P. Graziano for a Mr. G sub—a trip to the West Loop just isn’t the same without a one. If we’re really feeling decadent and fab, maybe we’ll grab a drink (Champagne, please) at RM.” —Elly Fishman, assistant editor
