What I’m Doing This Weekend

Up next in our series of weekend plans from notable, in-the-know locals—a.k.a. people we like: Video Games Gallery curator Chaz Evans. Weird Telephone, Only Dials One Number takes place on Saturday, March 21..

“On Friday, there is a DePaul University Play Jam session. DePaul students majoring in video game design will be presenting the newest ideas they have to offer and you’ll get to demo their games.

“On Saturday afternoon, there’s an Indie City Games March Meeting that I plan on attending. Indie City Games organizes these regular events for game creatives to talk about their work, share ideas, and test works in progress. The guest speaker this month is Sarah Sexton of the women’s coding group Voxelles. She’s going to talk about game development and there’s an open mic for people who want to talk about their own game designs.

“Then after that is the Weird Telephone, Only Dials One Number event presented by VGA Gallery and hosted at the Nightingale. We’re featuring a push-button telephone that people can play with. It’s a physical extension of a larger video game project called Kentucky Route Zero. The creators of the game will be there and there will also be a musical performance.

“Then Sunday, I might hit up Logan Arcade. It’s close to me, they have an interesting rotating beer selection, and they have this excellent multiplayer game called Killer Queen. Up to ten people can play.” —As told to Tomi Obaro
