It was easy to miss, but three weeks ago the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events quietly announced a very good, very free show at Pilsen's very new Thalia Hall on October 15. Officially dubbed the Chicago Made Fall Music Showcase, the show is part of Mayor Emanuel's ongoing campaign to "highlight the city as an innovation center, a global business destination, a cultural hub and most of all a city of diverse and unique culture and technology makers"—which, for you, means some awesome free programming.

This is the first Chicago Made music event on home turf (the inaugural showcase at South by Southwest was cut short due to overcrowding at Chance's set, natch), and its four-band lineup trumps most of this year's street festivals'. Head over to Do 312 to RSVP (required), and preview the talent below.

Hologram Kizzie (née Psalm One)

It's unclear whether longtime Chicago rapper Cristalle Bowen will appear tomorrow as Psalm One (her stage name for more than a decade) or Hologram Kizzie (the moniker from her latest LP, Hug Life). Bowen is currently billed to perform as Psalm One and host the event as Hologram Kizzie. Hopefully that means a little bit of both.

The O'My's

Chicago's foremost (okay, only) funk/soul/rock/hip-hop/cumbia sextet blends genres like it's an Olympic sport, and do so with surprising dexterity for such a young band. Their forthcoming psychedelic soul LP Keeping the Faith is slated for a late-fall release, so brace yourself for some new material.

Alex Wiley

This 21-year-old rapper's sophomore mix tape Village Party dropped in June, and it has earned enough national praise to cement him in the ranks of soon-to-break locals. If there's somebody you're liable not to see at next year's Chicago Made Fall Showcase, it's Wiley.

Paper Thick Walls

Self-proclaimed orchestral indie rock outfit Paper Thick Walls might be operating in an oversaturated genre, but there's plenty of room for the legitimately pretty songs that core duo Kate Schell and Eric Michaels pen.
