You’ve graduated from Ikea. You’ve got good taste and want high-quality furniture, but trusty chains such as Restoration Hardware and Design Within Reach are still pretty darn out of reach. What to do?

Three new locally-based furniture retailers have felt your pain and are offering their answers to your problems: Interior Define, Waveland & Clark and Wrightwood Furniture Co.

All are online retailers (coincidentally, with very similarly designed e-commerce sites) with companion showrooms (Interior Define's and Waveland & Clark's are opening soon). All skip the middleman and work directly with manufacturers in Asia and Europe to build their pieces.

But they have their differences:

Waveland & Clark was the first to launch its website earlier this fall (read more about it in our original post). The offerings, which include Restoration Hardware-style pieces as well as sleeker European silhouettes, are made in Chicago, Europe, and Asia, and the owners will open a showroom in the West Loop later this spring. Find great deals on elegant, well-made living room, dining room, and bedroom furniture, and get it delivered in 8 to 12 weeks.

Interior Define's sofas, sectionals and chairs (that is all they carry) are all made to order in Asia (once again, expect to wait a while for them to arrive). The feel of all the offerings is contemporary (think BoConcept) and you can get a sofa that looks like it cost at least $2,500 for about $1,600. Interior Define is opening a Wicker Park location in mid-January.

Wrightwood Furniture Co. (3036 N. Lincon Ave.) will remind you of another great place to get deals on well-priced pieces made in Asia: Ravenswood's Nadeau. Located in Lake View with an e-commerce site, Wrightwood has a broad range of styles, from Indo Colonial to industrial to French Country. All the pieces have a rustic vibe, compared to the contempary styles of the other two stores. Shipments come in regularly and the inventory is constantly updated. If you like it, buy it—each piece is one of a kind.
