Customers may go into the Lincoln Park store Peruvian Connection (925 Armitage Ave.) for the clothes, but according to co-founder Annie Hurlbut, they stick around and ask questions about the cool way the store is designed. We got the scoop on how Hurlbut put together such a great interior.
- Start with the architecture. After seeing the space, Hurlbut headed to Urban Remains and Salvage One for trim and doors to give the shop a really old feeling. She got the bold brass lighting fixtures hanging in the store at a Kansas City shop called Antiques and Oddities.
- Add decorative vintage touches. Hurlbut knew she wanted vintage wallpaper, so she discovered a place in New York that sells old designs called Secondhand Rose. See it for yourself on an accent wall at the back of the store.
- Just because you want it to look old doesn’t mean everything has to be old. Mixing old and new gives the space a nice eclectic look. Hurlbut finished off the store by buying baskets and other small items from Jayson Home.
