The hottest furniture collective in the city is throwing a party to show off a bunch of new designs—and you’re invited. The Dock 6 Collective's fifth Design + Art Opening is happening Friday night from 6 p.m. to midnight and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at 4200 W. Diversey.
Sure it’s a party (the drinks, nibbles, photo booth, and music guarantee that), but it’s also a chance to check out the latest work from -ism furniture (shown above), Carson Maddox studios, lagomorph design, Navillus WoodWorks, SAP design, Thomeworks, and zakrose.
One new collaboration I’m especially excited to see is the one between zakrose and Envision Arts Studio (a studio where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities come to create art). Rose-designed benches and stools will be upholstered in fabric woven by artists from Envision.
Other sales and events:
• The annual perennial plant sale at Riverside’s Ascension Lutheran Church (400 Nuttall Rd., Riverside) is happening Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale offers more than 100 varieties of perennials that are perfect for our climate.
• North Shore Flea premiers Sunday from the makers of the Vintage Garage Chicago at 428 Green Bay Road in Highwood. It will be a free monthly market the second Sunday of every month through September and will have 50-plus vendors selling vintage goods and crafts.
• Catch designer Monica Pedersen at two different Pottery Barn stores on Saturday: the 1000 W. North Ave. location from 1 to 2 p.m. and the Oakbrook location (21 Oakbrook Center) from 4 to 5 p.m. She’ll be sharing ideas for entertaining at home.
• Visit the new GE Monogram Design Center Showroom in Suite 124 at LuxeHome in the Merchandise Mart on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for culinary demonstrations, wine, refreshments, and a chance to win a GE Monogram Wine Chiller.
