If you haven’t stopped by the new, Old Town location of Judy Maxwell Home (actress Joan Cusack’s “modern general store,” as it’s described on the website), it’s time to head over there.

With its old space getting torn down, Judy Maxwell Home moved to 1363 N. Wells (at Schiller) earlier this fall. And according to shop manager Dana Farella, the forced relocation was a blessing in disguise.

The new space, which had been empty for 40 years, is situated on a corner with huge 15-feet windows and has tons of room for new merchandise. There is also space for workshops and crafts nights—things the old shop was too small to host.

While Judy Maxwell will always have fabulous antiques, Farella says the new store is also going to be stocked with great, high-quality, American-made crafts, such as quilts made in Minnesota, and a few modern surprises, such as the trivets Alessandra Baldereschi recently designed for the Italian manufacturer Seletti (shown here). Now, don’t these hip throwbacks seem right at home in a modern general store? 

Time to hit Old Town.
