The 60-story Elysian

GOLD COAST
LIST PRICE: N/A
SALE PRICE: $4,433,500

At the posh new Elysian, a unit on the 41st floor has sold for $4,433,500, the priciest sale yet at the 60-story hotel-and-condos tower at 11 East Walton Street. The buyers, David and Libby Savner, recently moved back to Chicago from the Washington, D.C., area after David retired as general counsel of the defense contractor General Dynamics and returned to his old law firm, Jenner & Block. He did not respond to a request for comment.

The Savners’ purchase of half a floor was part of the latest round of 16 closings on private residences in the building. Six of those went for more than $3 million; the other ten all went for between $2 million and $3 million—although the project’s sales website notes that “[e]xquisite life experiences start at $3.0 million.” At presstime, these 16 were all of the closed sales of the Elysian’s 52 private residences.

A Parisian-looking precast concrete tower fronted by a motor court, the Elysian was designed by the architect Lucien Lagrange and developed by the hotelier David Pisor. It has restaurants (see Dining Out, page 44), an extravagant spa, and 188 hotel rooms on its lower 26 floors, with the private residences on the upper floors.
