When it sold in May, this 13-room house toppled a two-year-old record for the priciest home in Western Springs, the small suburban village about 20 miles southwest of Chicago. Designed in 2004 by the Hinsdale architect Dennis Parsons for Brian and Andrea Walsh (the recent sellers), the four-bedroom residence has a yellow stucco exterior set off by a limestone entry and arched frame windows.

That European charm arries through into the house’s interior, with its triple-crown moldings, arched doorways, white distressed wood kitchen cabinets, and a curving staircase illuminated by designer light fixtures.

“They didn’t skimp on anything,” says Mary Jo Quirk, the Realty Executives agent who represented the Walshes. “They made a very beautiful house.” She declined to say why the couple, who could not be reached for comment, had decided to sell.

Joe Greybar of Greyson Custom Builders, which built the home, concurs. “That house is masonry underneath stucco,” he says. “Most of the time you apply stucco over [wood] framing, but this is the way to do it. [The Walshes] had to pay more, but the house is going to last.”
