You’re never far from a great, cheap hot dog in Chicago—except maybe at 2 a.m. This open-late (and cash-only) Ukie Village joint solves the bar crawler’s dilemma with char-grilled dogs, fresh-cut fries, and other to-go faves.
A dog at Fatso’s comes with fries ($4) and snaps when you bite it, the casing crisp from a few turns on the hot grill. Thick-cut charred salami bulks up a pressed sandwich piled with sweet grilled onions, tomatoes, mustard, and a tangy cheddar sauce ($7.50). Pop a few panko-crusted shrimp with cocktail sauce ($11 for a half pound), or ask for them on the off-menu shrimp po’ boy with tomatoes and mayo-based slaw on a toasty French roll ($8).
Of course, everything tastes equally scrumptious during regular meal times, though the people-watching is decidedly tamer. 2258 W. Chicago Ave., 773-245-3287
