For 25 years, Jason Hammel’s (pictured) Lula Cafe has been the standard-bearer for Logan Square dining, and his success is all about simplicity and seasonality. You could stick to Lula signatures for dinner — baked French feta, Caesar salad, Pasta Yiayia, carrot cake — and leave full and happy, but take time to try the seasonal plates on offer. Having breakfast, lunch, or brunch at Lula is almost a humblebrag, since, given the long weekend brunch lines, anyone you tell will be jealous that you got in for the smoked trout scramble with arugula, dill, and cream cheese, or the French omelet garnished with fingerling potato chips. Sit in the window so you can take in the bustle of Logan Square from your perch. From here, Lula Cafe feels like the center of the world.
