Every neighborhood needs a good neighborhood restaurant, and residents of Bridgeport are lucky that theirs is the Duck Inn. Kevin Hickey’s comfortable joint has a packed bar in front and a cozy dining room in back with a peek into the kitchen. If it’s your first visit, get the rotisserie duck, which is presented with slow-roasted legs and thighs and pan-roasted breasts and greens mixed with seasonal fruits and duck-fat potatoes. Duck jus reduction is served in a little pitcher to pour over the meat at the table. But on a return trip, try more. The Duck Inn Dog, a beef and duck fat dog served Chicago style with housemade mustard, relish, hot peppers, and pickles on a brioche poppy seed bun, is deeply satisfying, as are the cheese curds with Bloody Mary ketchup and hop mayo. You’ll likely see Hickey running dishes and greeting diners, which just adds to the friendliness of this place.
