The Empty Bottle may be best known for turn-it-up-to-11 rock shows that stretch past midnight, but it’s got a softer side. Every Friday evening at 5:30, the Ukrainian Village grunge dive welcomes the Hoyle Brothers, a honky-tonk band with a twang that feels more West Texas than Western Avenue. They aren’t actually related, nor is anyone named Hoyle — although musicians may recognize Steve Doyle, the lead guitarist, who teaches at the Old Town School of Folk Music. Don’t be fooled by the rainy-day song titles, such as “The Woman That Passed Me By” and “Love Has Let Me Down”: The band’s pedal steel sound will make you smile. They’ve been kicking off the weekend here since 2002, and their shows are still free. Take that, inflation! 1035 N. Western Ave. emptybottle.com
