From the slightly off-center floating steps to the wood-clad entry cubicle tucked into the heart of the building, the elements of the three-unit condominium structure at 2736 North Southport Avenue aren’t exactly where you would expect them.

Consider the building’s largest unit, which drops down into a basement family room that has a two-story-high ceiling. The crisscrossing chrome exterior staircases don’t actually connect with one another, and the profusion of frosted-glass walls blurs the distinction between inside and out. Credit the funky design to Funke Architects, who gave the condos glass-fronted balconies and outfitted the bathrooms with horizontal tiling, wall-mounted toilets, and combined shower-and-tub wet rooms. The sleek appliances and cabinetry in the kitchens complement the contemporary aesthetic.
Completed in September, all three units were still available at presstime, according to Mike Vesole, the @properties agent who represents the building. The largest condo, with approximately 2,100 square feet, is priced at $839,000. The other two units, each with about 1,500 square feet and situated on the second and third floors, are each $649,000.
