Molly Zuckerman-Hartung doesn’t make pretty art.
“Every time I see a beautiful painting, I think that [artist] must have a charmed life,” says the 39-year-old Ukrainian Village resident. “My life doesn’t feel like that at all.”
The painter leads her revolt against all things conventional by saturating canvases with bleach, porn, globs of paint, and whatever else turns up the intensity. Before Zuckerman-Hartung heads to New York City in March for the 2014 Whitney Biennial (she is one of 17 Chicago artists tapped for the showcase), the up-and-comer opens her second solo exhibition at Corbett vs. Dempsey on February 7.
