You guys have been in the local scene for a long time. Do you find any great advantages or disadvantages to being based in Chicago?

The music scene here is just incredible and kind of an unknown diamond in the middle of the country. People think of Los Angeles and New York and Nashville as epicenters, and I think Chicago is definitely in the same tier as all those places.

Are fellow musicians here supportive?

Oh yeah. That’s one of the great things. Our drummer is a jazz drummer, and I manage a jazz record label [Greenleaf Music] for my day gig, and it’s great to be able to just go to the jazz community if we need some horns on a song or in a live performance. For guys who are used to playing very complex music, they always treat our material with the same amount of respect as anything else.

Do you have a favorite memory from your time together as a band?

We’re playing Schubas this month, and that place has a lot of fond memories for us. It’s where we played our first gig. We play all over the place, but Schubas has always been our home base.
