A Hyde Park resident for more than 50 years, Deone Jackman, 80, a retired psychotherapist, has seen the neighborhood undergo significant changes. What excites her most is the rise of the arts on the South Side—something she helped facilitate through her support of organizations such as the Hyde Park Art Center, which recently celebrated its 75th anniversary. In the early 2000s, when the center was facing financial trouble, Jackman led the charge to get things back on track. “The center evokes commitment and love,” she says. The same commitment to artists is apparent in Jackman’s prewar 1916 condo, where the Toronto native showcases an impressive collection of contemporary work. Here are some of her favorite items.
