Frank and Mike Hojjat, the brothers who run Cirrus Builders & Designers in Burr Ridge, started out working on commercial structures. “We brought that [expertise] to houses 20 years ago,” Frank says, pointing to this 11,000-square-foot house in Hinsdale that Cirrus completed in 2009. Its guts are structural steel and reinforced concrete; during the long period that it sat unsold and served as the company’s model, “we had not one crack from settling,” says Frank. “Not one.”

Cirrus sold the house in mid-April for $3.131 million—two-thirds of its original $4.7 million asking price. “That is not what we wanted, but I think we did well in this economic situation,” Frank says. The Cook County Recorder of Deeds identified the buyers as Brenton and Jennifer Krumpfes.

Set in the Woodlands section of Hinsdale, the four-story, 15-room house has a Wisconsin limestone exterior, copper gutters, a slate roof, and a four-car garage. Inside, there is a dramatic curved hanging staircase, a library paneled in Brazilian cherry, a stone and terra cotta wine cellar, four fireplaces, inlays in the wood floors, an elevator, and a theatre and a pub in the basement: “Everything you could think of,” says Joanne McCafferty, the Brush Hill Realtors agent who represented Cirrus.
