At the 47-story Parkview Condominiums tower, completed in April at Illinois Street and McClurg Court, it’s all about providing residents with a good outlook. Its design, by Solomon Cordwell Buenz for the developer MCL Companies, turns the building’s mass—which, from above, looks like a pointed oval intersecting a rectangle—diagonally so that another building slated for the block won’t end up obscuring the Parkview’s carefully planned sightlines.

“It’s a design that gets everybody the best views we can give them,” says Tim Vaughn, MCL’s sales and marketing manager. That means some midfloor units actually get corner views, while other condos look straight down McClurg to the Chicago River. The developers have added some open space to the mix by building a semiprivate, two-plus-acre park next door, with four levels of parking below.

Of the building’s 268 units, 195 had been sold at presstime. The remaining units start at $387,500, which buys a 921-square-foot one-bedroom condo. At the upper end, a 47th-floor, 2,680-square-foot penthouse with a 1,500-square-foot terrace carries a $1.95-million price tag.
