The old Comptometer factory at 1735 North Paulina Street was one of the first industrial buildings outside of downtown to undergo a loft conversion. Fourteen years later, Bond Companies has converted the place, known more recently as the Paulina Arts Center, into condos. Fourteen of the 95 units remain for sale.
The building—actually a series of four interconnected brick structures—fills half of a block in Bucktown; its big interior courtyard means lots of sunlight pours through each unit’s oversize windows. The upgrade includes bamboo flooring in the lobby, as well as new roofing, elevator cabs, and heating and air conditioning.

The units range from an 842-square-foot two-bedroom unit priced at $299,000 to an 1,850-square-foot penthouse for $949,900. Perched on one of the highest floors in Bucktown and with windows 21 feet wide and 16 feet high, the penthouse has views south and east to the downtown skyline; it will also have a rooftop deck. Although all the other units in the building are finished, the developers are selling the penthouse—a two-bedroom unit with a study—as unfinished. All of the unsold units are ready for occupancy and include an outdoor parking space in the sale price.
