The Aussie native says Chicago Avenue strikes the ideal balance between big-city grit and a free-spirited artists’ community. For six years, she has witnessed its growth on the daily jaunt from her Ukrainian Village house to her stylish wallcovering and upholstery boutique, Urban Source, at 1429 West Chicago Avenue.
“Two staples never let me down: West Town Tavern (1329 W. Chicago Ave.), which offers solid food and a warm space, and Flo (1434 W. Chicago Ave.), where the tomato bisque is my perennial lunchtime order. Mexique (1529 W. Chicago Ave.) is newer and good for an anniversary dinner, and at Ruxbin, you can get a fabulous meal without having to spend a lot. I get my hair cut by Alyse [Anderson] at a quirky little salon, Strange Beauty Show (1118 N. Ashland Ave.), and I love the well-edited selection of vintage clothes at Dovetail (1452 W. Chicago Ave.), across the street from our shop.”
