In a digital age littered with slickly produced commercial images, Andreas Fischer prefers intimate, imperfect ones. His painting Campers (above) depicts two figures sharing a moment of respite in nature. One holds an orange slice behind their back, but the Bucktown-based artist, 43, keeps the remaining details intentionally hazy. “Paint, to me, is a way of hand making. There are layers of individuality,” he says. “We take images for granted, but they’re really important to us.” Fischer’s new exhibit, The Ghost in Your Shoe, runs through April 4 at Andrew Rafacz Gallery. andrewrafacz.com
