In 2013, when feminists were encouraged to lean in, Kendall started a viral hashtag instead: #solidarityisforwhitewomen. Lean-in feminism, she argued, benefits privileged women at the expense of those who lack basic needs like jobs and childcare. “Hood feminism” — also the title of her much-feted new book — is for them. And now, with Kendall’s rising national profile, including a March appearance on The Daily Show, it may be for all of us.
