Two things we know Chicagoans can’t get enough of: Italian food and sandwiches. Hence, the sudden popularity of panini. Versions of the pressed, grilled Italian delights are popping up everywhere—Vella Cafe (1912 N. Western Ave.; 773-489-7777), Citizen Bar (364 W. Erie St.; 312-640-1156), Ventrella’s Caffè (4947 N. Damen Ave.; 773-506-0708), and Piccolo (859 N. Damen; 773-772-3355), to name a few. The latest to hit the scene are at Milk & Honey Bake Shop (1543 N. Damen; 773-227-1167); with A Mano and La Madia about to open in River North, we should soon reach critical mass.
