Edward Kaplan, MD and Marlon Kleinman, MD

For the past three decades, Drs. Edward Kaplan and Marlon Kleinman have dedicated their careers to treating cancer in the North Shore. In November 2024, they expanded their practice at City of Hope, unveiling a new location in Morton Grove to offer more clinical options and provide quick access to breast cancer screenings, exemplifying their commitment to improving the lives of patients and community members in the North Shore and Chicagoland. Drs. Kaplan and Kleinman also are leaders within City of Hope, both serving as assistant clinical professors in the Department of Medical Oncology and Therapeutics Research.

Meet Dr. Kaplan

A board-certified medical oncologist, Dr. Kaplan earned his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, followed by a residency in internal medicine and subspecialty training in hematology-oncology at Northwestern University. Before practicing in the North Shore, he served as an assistant professor at Rush University and was also co-founder and medical director of Rush Cancer Institute’s Comprehensive Center for Gastrointestinal Malignancies.

At City of Hope, Dr. Kaplan dedicates himself to providing individualized cancer treatment with a strong focus on compassionate care. While he has expertise in a variety of cancer types, he specializes in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers, including colorectal, esophageal and pancreatic cancers. Dr. Kaplan is also passionate about cancer screening programs and helping people understand their individual risk factors.

Meet Dr. Kleinman

A triple board-certified hematologist-oncologist, Dr. Kleinman earned his medical degree from Northwestern University, followed by a residency in internal medicine at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke Medical Center and a hematology/oncology fellowship at Northwestern University. Before practicing in the North Shore, Dr. Kleinman was a physician and instructor with Rush University’s Chest Tumor Multidisciplinary Clinic and the medical director of Rush North Shore’s Genetic Counseling and Risk Assessment for Familial Cancers program.

At City of Hope Dr. Kleinman specializes in the treatment of blood cancers, including lymphoma, leukemia and multiple myeloma, while also treating a variety of other cancer types and non-cancerous hematologic disorders. He is especially interested in molecular profiling of tumors, as well as blood via liquid biopsy, to optimize outcomes. With a strong interest in cancer prevention and wellness programs, he strives to educate his patients and community about cancer survivorship, as well as reduction strategies for diabetes and obesity.
